Anna Leigh Ashford

Annaleigh Amanda Ashford was born in the United States. She is an actor, singer and dancer. As a young actress, she appeared in Broadway role, she was the role of Essie Carmichael in Wicked Legally Blonde Hair. For her role as Essie as Essie in You Can't Take It With You she won the Tony Award. Tony Award-winning actress Annaleigh Ashford spent the majority of her career working alongside renowned directors and actors across the stage, film and TV and she will continue that collaboration with a variety of upcoming projects. Ashford is scheduled to be in the role of Kumail Nanjiani on the Hulu limited series Welcome to Chippendales from creator Robert Siegel premiering on November 22. Ashford is currently filming on Searchlight Pictures' horror thriller Dust starring opposite Sarah Paulson and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. The film will stream through Disney's DTC platforms as a Hulu Original. Ashford is set to appear as Josh Groban on Broadway's Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in the March 2023 production of Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd. Thomas Kail, director and producer of Hamilton will direct the production. Ashford was most recently seen in the role of Paula Jones in Ryan Murphy FX series American Crime Story Impeachment. The series is based on the National Crisis which put Paula Jones Monica Lewinsky Linda Tripp in the middle of the country's First Impeachment Proceedings in Over a Century. Two seasons ago, Ashford was a star of CBS's hit series B Positive. It was co-produced by Chuck Lorre with Marco Pennette. It featured Linda Lavin, Hector Elizondo, as well as Ben Vereen. Ashford is no stranger to Broadway. The role she played as Essie in You Can't Take It with You earned her Tony Drama Desk Awards and Outer Critics Circle Awards. Other Broadway credits for Ashford includes Sunday in the Park, with George Wicked legally Blonde, and her role as Lauren as Lauren in Kinky Boots. For this performance, she was awarded an Tony Award nomination. Ashford splits her life between Los Angeles & New York. She was born in Denver and grew up there.
